A. General Description of the City
The City of Lamitan is situated approximately between Latitude 122 degrees 01’ 05” east to 122 degrees 12’ east and Longitude 6 degrees 31’ 37” north 6 degrees 42’ 30” north. It is bounded in the west by Isabela City, in the east by Municipality of Tuburan, in the south by Municipality of Tipo-Tipo and in the north by Basilan Channel.
It has a total land area of 35,445 hectares distributed among the 45 Barangays. This figure represents about 18.72% of the total land area of the Province of Basilan which is 135,000 hectares. The areas of the Barangays are shown in Table 1.
Predominantly an agriculture community, its major crops are coconut, rubber, coffee, corn which account for the great bulk of the City income. Its secondary crops include black pepper, root crops, vegetables and other seasonal fruits.

Livestock like poultry production and fishing are the other agricultural activities in the City. Around 70% of the City population derives their income from agriculture, 30% from business, profession and laborers.
The City has infrastructural and public facilities which support socio-economic activities. It also has the basic social facilities like schools, hospitals, health clinics and the like, which provide the needed social services to the people.
- Altogether, Lamitan faces a promising future in relation to overall development.
